Volunteer Opportunities

Doing volunteer work or community service is a great way to explore careers.  Volunteering provides learners with an opportunity to sample an occupation and learn whether that career matches their interests and work values.  Community service is a wonderful way to meet people working in the field and even develop mentoring relationships.  Community engagement is often one criteria for scholarship selection and sometimes even for admission to selective colleges or programs.  The United Way Volunteer Action Center offers many opportunities to give back to your community while validating your individual education and career plans.

HIP StudentThe College & Career Exploration Center welcomes volunteers who want to help individuals develop plans for success in higher education and careers.  Colin Quinn is a student volunteer from the High School Intercurricular Program (HIP).  Colin states, "Being involved with the College & Career Exploration Center has exposed me to tools that will benefit me in the future.  I have taken surveys that have helped me realize my potential in college and later when I choose a career.  Volunteering at the Exploration Center is fun because I get to work at any speed I want, spend time with experts on college, and feel the satisfaction of volunteering while bettering myself for the future."
